The Pope is apparently NOT following the teachings of our Lord and Savior, Jesus...

False Prophet.

I have very committed relation with God, but I don't trust the catholic church, the pope or the vatican.

There’s a chance, Todd, that the definition of proselytizing is not understood between what your definition is and what a Catholic definition is. Perhaps anyway.

I am not a fan of Pope Francis, and agree he has become too much a political pope than religious. That said, what he referred to regarding this subject of proselytizing is a long discussed and written subject within Catholic doctrine. In short, the Catholic concept is one where by example a Catholic exhibits enthusiasm for his Christian faith and lives it as openly as possible. In so doing he hopes to influence the choices a non-Christian might make to consider Christianity; but to induce the non-Christian through some means of non-religious incentives or restrictions, or by not showing respect for the dignity of a non-believer is to do injustice to the concept of converting.

It’s really no different than what you Todd are doing: you try to engage, educate and encourage people to understand your points of view but you don’t come right out and demand they agree with you, you persuade. You present your beliefs for people to choose to try to understand your beliefs in such a way that it becomes a road they might wish to follow. This is what I believe Francis was attempting to reiterate. Note that he was talking to seminarians who have heard this idea already. I think he was referring to a sin of disrespect which if used to proselytize was in his mind wrong.

Nevertheless I too think he is rather ignorant as well as leans Marxist who has too many years of believing in the human power of top down control over the masses.

So, in short, a Catholic idea of proselytizing is showing the world the example of Christian faith and love and therefore offering the insights of Christianity to others. The words attributed to Francis may be accurate but in my opinion they don’t mean how you interpreted them. I’d like to hear your brother Zack comment on this. You two always combine to explain the difficult.

I am a convert of many years, and thanks to many have been guided well. When Pope Benedict died my first thought was the seat is empty. :( Many Catholics have grave concerns about "Pope" Francis. To numerous to go into here. Another question to add to yours is "Is the Pope Catholic"! We continue to pray for Holy Mother Church and know God is in charge, we trust in that.

Jesus declared that His church will survive until his second coming-- I suppose despite whoever is among the church hierarchy.

I can only hope the quote is not correct, but it wouldn't surprise me if it is indeed correct.

Let's see, just teaching the gospel puts one at a different level of scrutiny at judgment. Wonder what level of scrutiny a Pope is at??
